The AWL is excited to launch its three-part Ally-ship, Diversity and Inclusion Series on January 27, 2021. In this first session, AWL Board member and in-house counsel Noren Howg, and Calgary litigator Susannah Alleyne will present and host a discussion on the statistics, sociological data, and some of the personal experiences and stories necessary for concrete projects of diversity, inclusion, and ally-ship.
Noren Howg spearheads Diversity and Inclusion efforts at TransAlta Corporation, a leader in clean energy and an ESG focused electricity generator. Noren is the past Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Canadian Bar Association. She has also written many articles about Diversity and Inclusion in the Law Matters Magazine and has a passion for creating more inclusive communities that celebrate diversity.
Susannah Alleyne is a family lawyer and mediator at Matkovic Allan LLP in Calgary. As an active volunteer within the Calgary Bar and the broader Calgary community, Susannah has appeared on Global News to discuss issues of racism and policing, and, is one of the founding organizers of Calgary’s Caribbean Black History Month annual showcase. She is a past co-chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion committee and has held several board member positions with the Caribbean Community Council of Calgary. Susannah is a mentor with various Black legal and professional organizations in Calgary and is working hard to establish the first Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL). She has a passion for anti-racism work and hopes to continue to shed light on issues of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
