Black History Month

During Black History Month, AWL acknowledges and pays tribute to the rich legacy and ongoing contributions of Black Canadians. The theme for this year, “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build,” encourages the celebration of past and present achievements while inspiring anticipation for future accomplishments. AWL urges its members to commit to continuous learning and acting, fostering engagement not only in February but throughout the year. We take this opportunity to recognize Violet King Henry,  the first black person to be called to the Alberta Bar in 1954 & first black woman lawyer in Canada.
